Happy New Year!  2017 was a really great year for me, but I could not be more excited about 2018.  What about you?

However you feel about it, I think today’s topic will be beneficial to you.  Today I’m sharing my top 3 tips to start the new year off in a powerful way.  If you are new to the show, welcome!  If you are a working Christian mom and you are looking for practical straight to the point tips to help you grow in your faith, reach your goals, and balance all that life has for you hit subscribe!  That’s what we are all about.

If you are part of our free facebook community, then you walked closing out 2017 with me.  Well, this is a small continuation of that.  Also, our Facebook community members got the inside scoop yesterday on a lot of new stuff for Your Life Rocks, Life Balance Membership and me personally.

I’ll let you in on some of these big changes at the end of the episode so make sure you stay tuned in till the end for that.

I want to kick off our 3 tips with a Bible Verse.  Today’s verse is Matthew 6:33 and is one of my life verses.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

As with all bible verses, I encourage you to go to your bible and read the context in which this is being shared.  The reason why I chose this verse to share today, is because it’s the new year.  It’s the time that we go seeking to improve our lives and set goals.

If you listened last week, I went in-depth on the 3 pillars to having balance in your life.

  1. Aligning your life with Jesus

  2. Keep your world big by building relationships and community

  3. Following systems to bring more balance.

Matthew 6:33 reinforces that for us and is a great reminder as we begin 2018.

With that, let’s get right into the first way to start the new year off right,

  1. Let go of the past. Lamentations tell us that his mercies are new every morning.  God has extended us grace and forgiveness.  Have you done the same for yourself?  What about others in your life?  It’s really hard to move forward if we are tied to things in the past.  You won't get very far.  If you haven't done so already, maybe you need to unpack the last year.  True, you could be holding onto things that are much older, but reviewing 2017 is a great place to start.  Go through the year and count the blessings, answered prayers, miracles God did in your life.  Sometimes the hard stuff can be a blessing, we just might not see it that way.  As you are walking through the year looking for the good stuff, you will naturally find the not so good stuff.  Write all of that down.  Put it before the Lord and pray that you can let it go.  Everything happens for a reason and God can use any of it for good.  So give it to him and let go of it for yourself.

  2. Set your intentions for the year.  I really dislike setting annual goals or resolutions.  I love setting goals, don’t get me wrong, but a whole year?  That’s too long.  That’s why I like the idea of setting an intention instead.  It might be a word or a phrase but something that you are believing for, and praying for the new year.  This intention will influence the goals that you do set.  I for one think 90-day goals are the perfect time frame.  Intentions also influence the things you do.  What you say yes to, what you say no to.  My intention for the new year is to move forward with intention.  I have a clear vision for my life and it’s time I start moving toward the vision.  I have the word “intention” in there because things might seem good and a move forward, but if it’s not intentionally moving me closer to the vision, I have to say no.  I have to manage my own expectations.  I have the type of personality where I can just pile work on myself and do things because they seem like a good thing to do.  In the new year, I have to be more selective and simplify a bit more.

  3. Take action.  I love this time of year and the season we are just leaving-Christmas/New Years.  It’s a lot of mental stuff.  I tend to go deep into my journalling and prayer.  It’s a lot of planning and thinking.  Both personally and in my career.  It’s easy to get stuck in that gear.  But don’t!  Get into massive action right away.  Often times we know what we need to do to live the life we want to live, yet we drag our feet in actually doing it.  Decide to do something different.  I had this realization of the power of a bold move a couple years ago.  I was working as a Country Director for a health and wellness company.  I lived in Arizona and my office was in Arizona but traveled a few weeks each month to Canada.  While I loved what I did for work, it wasn’t in alignment with the life I wanted to live.  So I decided the only way for it to change was to do something bold.  I met with my boss at the end of the year and told him that in the next year, I didn’t want to be traveling.  That I was committed to the travel and business plans through April, but after that, I needed to change.  I told him that I understood that part of my job function was travel so I knew I would need to look for a new job, hopefully in the same company.  I wasn’t quitting.  I wasn’t giving notice.  Just communicating.  I didn’t know how it would all work out, but I left that up to God.  I took a step out in faith.  I will say that there was a lot of prayers before I took that step.  Each year since then, I have done the same thing.  A bold move of action.

Now, I told you that I had a bunch of things to share with you at the end of this show.  The first of it was my bold move toward my intentions.  Early in December, my intention for the new year was becoming pretty clear.  So I started to pray about it and gave it to God knowing that he would find a way to line things up.  I never count on God to answer my prayers just as I want them answered.  He always surprises me.  Well, within a week I was approached about a new position in the career field I left a year and a half ago.  My first instinct was to turn it down without even looking at it.  After all, it didn’t fit in with my plan.  But something in my spirit told me to pursue it.  Two weeks later and after a few interviews, I accepted the job offer.  Doing what I love, very little travel, and moving me forward toward the vision for my life with intention.  God is good.

So, after working in my husband’s business, I am now returning to the corporate world.  Your Life Rocks isn’t going anywhere, don’t you worry.  I’m excited to share this journey with you.  Be sure you are following me over on IG Your.Life. Rocks and join our facebook group.

More exciting news, we have a new Bible study/ course to help you create goals that are aligned with God.  Like a lot of my favorite childhood books, it’s somewhat of a choose your own adventure.  You can choose to do the study in 4 weeks (6 days a week) or 8 (3 days a week).  It is an actual bible study.  You don’t get a lot of commentary from me.  I want you to hear from the Lord.  I just provide the verses to study and the workbook to unpack it and apply it to your life.  After the bible study, there is a quick review of the study and instruction in using what you learned to create goals for your life that are aligned with God.

And lately, the courses inside Life Balance Membership will be available for purchase outside of the membership starting this month.  Of course, the best value is to get them all with your Life Balance Membership, but you have asked for the content without the commitment, so I am answering that request for you.  Setting Goals in God’s will is the first to be available in both ways, so check out lifebalancemembership.com for more info or YourLifeRocks.com
